This week has finally started to feel more like fall. Which suits me just fine. It is one of my favorite seasons. And we're looking forward to taking the boys on a pumpkin patch ride soon! But before we completely say goodbye to summer I thought I would post some pictures from our beach trip in August. We took the boys to Virginia Beach mainly because it was the closest beach to us. We would have preferred the Outer Banks in NC or Bethany Beach, DE where Bill's family goes every year. But that would have meant an additional 1.5 - 4 hours of drive time, which can be an eternity in cranky toddler time. We stayed in an oceanfront hotel (because I was not going to lug a bunch of baby gear 1+ blocks to the beach), and we made sure to get a 2 room "suite" so that when the boys went to bed at 8pm we could watch tv and hang out in the living room. We had to take 2 pack n plays for the boys, which would barely fit in the bedroom (only after moving a piece of furniture), and also meant we would be sleeping on the uncomfortable pull out sofa in the living room since half of the bed was blocked off. You'll notice I also hung up blankets on their PnPs so that they wouldn't see us tiptoeing by them to the bathroom in the middle of the night, ha.

The weather was crazy hot, around 97 most days. So we made sure to hit the beach by 10am and then in the late afternoon we would go to the indoor pool. The boys definitely loved playing in the sand and pouring it all over themselves, as evidenced by all the sand we ended up washing out of the butt cracks and between their toes :)

I'm pretty sure Michael Phelps got his start wearing similar little "puddle jumpers" too. Even that little French boy in the pic was wearing puddle jumpers!
On the way home from the beach we stopped by to see Grandma and Grandpa, and then got to see them a couple of weeks later when they came to visit us along with Uncle Bill and Aunt Kathy. I'm not sure who is happier in the next set of pictures, Grandma or the boys who love riding on her back:

The boys favorite toys these days are their fire trucks. Grammy got them one a couple of months ago, and like most other toys we had to buy a second one because Colin would pitch a fit anytime Brandon rode it. Now they each have their own, and no toes are safe in our house as they go whipping around the kitchen island at lightening speed.
Brandon's latest favorite saying is "I want that," which can be something on the counter, a magnet on the fridge, or a toy at Target. He wants it all! And they are both fond of saying "Go 'way" when they want to play independently (or torture a cat) without Mommy and Daddy telling them not to do something. Or sometimes like tonight one will tell us to go away so he can go have some "alone time" to work on a poop :) That reminds me though, both boys have peed in their potties several times, and Brandon even pooped in the toilet at daycare this week! I also just rented a DVD from the library called I'm A Potty Pirate. I can assure you that you will not find such high brow classics at Red Box kiosks.
The boys are definitely getting more adventurous. And it sometimes causes us some heartburn, like when they both decided they preferred to jump off their slide rather than slide down it.
And here is a video of Bill making Colin cackle with laughter before bed the other night.
Lastly here is a super short video of them playing in the sand at the beach.
Well that about wraps up the end of our summer. Hope to see you back here at least by Thanksgiving! :)
